FEP 010( Off the beaten track )


Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, welcomed by our tour guide and start the full-day sightseeing in Yangon City, the name given by the founder of the Third Burmese Empire, King Alaungphaya, in 1755, symbolizing " the Peaceful City ", by paying a visit to a street market in China Town, walk in & around the downtown near Sule Pagoda dotted with such remaining British colonial buildings as Yangon city hall, High Court, Mahabandula park, Telegraph Office, Post Office, etc., browse at Scott or Bogyoke Market named after the then British Municipal commissioner Gavin Scott and later Burma national hero Aung San, time for lunch. Afternoon visit to the 68m-long Chaukhtatkyi Reclining Buddha Image, the 100 m high Shwedagon Pagoda, the holiest sight of Burma for Buddhists, gilded with 60 tons of pure gold plates, its 2 topmost parts diamond orb & weather vane, encrusted with about 4,000 pieces of diamonds, the biggest one weighed 76 carat, about more than 4,000 pieces of such precious & semi-precious stones as ruby, sapphire, period, spinal, emerald, aquamarine, amethyst, etc, time for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Yangon.


After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, morning drive to the Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda aka Golden Rock, which is worldwide known for its precarious balancing position on the edge of the base cliff protruding from the main ground. From Yangon, it takes about 4 hours by car to reach the Kinpun Base Camp of the Golden Rock, from there to Golden Rock by a passenger truck with other passengers, it is about 45-minutes, if the traffic is clear, check-in at the hotel and it is just 10 minutes’ walk away to the pagoda. It's a country drive from Yangon to the Golden Rock and on the sides of motor road, are the broad fields of mainly rice plantations and the scenery is idyllic and make a photo stop at Shwehmawdaw Pagoda, visit the partially reconstructed Kambawzathadi Palace on the way. Lunch will be on the way and dinner and overnight at the hotel. B=Breakfast


In the morning after breakfast, a couple of minutes walk to a truck station, from there by truck, to the base camp ( 45-minute drive ) and then by car, cir 3 & 1/2 drive to Mawlawmyaing (Kyaikhto -Thahton-Mawlamyaing) , the beautiful city located on the shore of the River, Thanlwin. On theway, if we see something interesting, make photo stops, visit Shwesayan Pagoda at Thahton, lunch will be there or at Mawlawmyaing depending on the time.InMawlawmyaing, in the evening, pay a visit to the ranges of hill studded with MahamuniPhaya, Kyaikthanlan Pagoda, Queen Seindon's ancient teakwood monastery, U Khandi& U Zina Pagoda, from there, one can enjoy the breathtaking view of Mawlamyaing city and the ThanlwinRiver.Then time for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Mawlamyaing. After breakfast at the hotel, start the morning sightseeing by exploring the central Mawlamyaing Market to observe the locals' way of life by rubbing shoulders with them, from there to Mudon, which is 26 km, cir 1/2 drive, to visit the world longest hollow unfinished reclining Buddha image, having 200-meter in length, 7 stories in height, located in the spacious Win-sein Monastic Compound, proceed to Thanbyuzayat World War II Cemetery ( cir 1-hr drive & 38 km ), which is one end of the notorious 415-km / 258-miles long Burma-Siam Death Railway inside Burma, where the 3,149 tombstones of commonwealth soldiers in the 2nd world war, are laid out in a semi-circle, well maintained by the British Commonwealth, after that continue to drive to Setse Beach ( about 25 minutes drive for 15 km ) for lunch there before going to Kyaikkhami formerly known as Amherst ( cir 45 minutes for 27 km ) to visit Kyaikkhami Yele Pagoda, ( cir 40 minutes for 24 km ) , then drive all the way back to Mawlawmyaing, about 2-hours drive for 77 km. In the late afternoon, have a stroll along the Thanlwin River shore and in & around down-town leisurely to explore the city by yourself or with your guide, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Mawlaymaing. After breakfast and check-out at the hotel, leave for the Karen ethnic capital city, " Hpa-an ", which will take about 1 hour and 15 minutes drive by car, on the way, visit a nice Kado Village to see the beautiful teak-wood monastery, which is the good deed of U Nar Auk, who is the Mon ethnic business tycoon of those days, Saddam Cave well-known for its beautiful scenery,Kyauk-ka-lap, which is beautifully located in the middle of the lake with the backdrop of Mt.Zwekabin, which is the landmark of the Karen State, then to Hpa An and time for lunch. Afternoon visit in Hpa-an includes the 7th century AD Kawtgun Cave, the pagoda on the river shore where one can enjoy the everyday people, the beautiful scenes & the sunset, then it will be the time for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Hpa An. After breakfast, check-out the hotel, visit Hpa An market, then leave for Bago, it's about 180-km, 4-hr drive (Hpa An-Thahton-Kyaikhto-Waw-Bago), and on the way to Bago, stop at Bayingyigu cave which is in between Hpa-An and Thahton well-known for its beautiful scenic spot . Lunch will be on the way and, visit Kyaikpun Hpaya aka 4 seated Buddha Images in Bago, the Htaukkyan War Cemetery maintained by the British Commonwealth, Golden Banyan Tree, the home of the Guardian Spirit or Nat for automobiles and then to Yangon, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Yangon. After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, transfer to the Yangon Airport to take a late morning flight (either direct or via Sandoway ) to Sittwe, the capital of the Arakan State aka Rakhaing/Rakhine , then about 1-hour car-drive from the Sittwe airport to the jetty of Ponnagyun to start our approximately 3-hr Ponnagyun-Mrauk U-private cruise depending on tide, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful with the daily activities, on the river, of fishing, washing clothes at the river bank & swimming, etc.,. In fact, it's a stately-cruised-beautiful voyage, relaxing and enjoying the Kaladan river life. Upon arriving at Mrauk-U, which is the forgotten ancient kingdom (1429–1785) of Araknese kings, transfer to check-in at the hotel, dinner time and overnight at the hotel there in Mrauk-U. Remark: Lunch on board the boat & have a walk in a downtown depending on our arrival time there!


After breakfast at the hotel, a morning visit to Mrauk-U local market to see the everyday people’s ways of life before proceeding to explore the area dotted with such ancient worth-visiting monuments as Lay Mro period Pisi pagoda with 5 sandstone Buddha images strategically located on the mound with nice view up there, the 16th century Koethaung Temple well-known for 90,000 Buddha images in different sizes, a walk to a beautiful Letsaykan Lake and its nearby village where one can see how the drums & fans are traditionally made by hand, time for lunch. Afternoon visit to the ancient archaeological site scattered with such monuments as the 16th century magnificent landmark Shitthaung Temple boasting 80,000 Buddha images in different sizes, in the shape of the fortress with interior tunnel of maze decorated with stone carving reliefs of the images of Buddha & other beings depicting mainly 547 Jataka stories, the Htutkan Sima well-known for its sandstone reliefs with different hair styles of those days, visit a Thet/Sak tribal village to observe one of our almost extinct ancient tribes there, enjoy the sunset from the hillock near the Ratanabon Pagoda, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Mrauk-U. After breakfast at the hotel, at least half an hour car-drive to Poe-phuy-kyun village, where we take about 2 &1/2 -hour-small-private-locally-used-boat trip upstream on the beautiful Lemyo/Lay Mro River to 3 Chin Tribal villages of tattooed-face Chin women by the river shore and we are going to explore, on foot, them when we get there. The scenery along the river is charming and idyllic, sometimes bamboo rafts are coming down the river, villagers are collecting stones & sand from the river bed for commercial purpose, fishing, swimming, washing their clothes by the river shore, etc. At the Chin tribal villages, we can observe the Chin women whose faces are beautified with colourful tattoos in the designs of spider-webs representing their specific clan, also their way of life, lunch will be enjoyed at one of the Tattooed –faced-Chin-women’s villages, after exploration there, all the way back to the hotel in Mrauk-U by boat, by car, then dinner time and overnight stop at the hotel in Mrauk-U. After breakfast and check-out at the hotel, in the morning, 3-hour- car-drive to Sittwe, on the way, visit the Vesali village, the former ancient kingdom (327-818 AD), Mahamuni Buddha Image at Kyauktaw, believed to be the original Buddha image cast of Bronze during the time of Gotama Buddha, lunch time, stop at a weaving place by the roadside at Kyamathauk Village, proceed to Sittwe, where the places of interest to be visited include the National museum to study the civilizations, culture, history, etc., of the people living in Rakhine, a walk in a city to explore by rubbing shoulder with the locals, stop at the view point overlooking the Bay of Bengal, then dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Sittwe. Before or after breakfast at the hotel, early morning visit to the central Sittwe market on foot to see the fish market where the auction of fish freshly caught  from the Bay of Bengal, can be observed together with the morning activities at the market, visit the cultural museum, photo stop at Jama Mosque built in 1859 next to the museum and then transfer to the airport to take a flight back to Yangon to be in time there for your connecting international flight to your next destination.
