FEP-ES Southern Burma Extension Trip

Day 1 YANGON-KYAIKHTIYOE

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, morning drive to the Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda aka Golden Rock, which is worldwide known for its precarious balancing position on the edge of the base cliff protruding from the main ground. From Yangon, it takes about 4 hours by car to reach the Kinpun Base Camp of the Golden Rock, from there to Golden Rock by a passenger truck with other passengers, it is about 45-minutes, if the traffic is clear, check-in at the hotel and it is just 10 minutes’ walk away to the pagoda. It's a country drive from Yangon to the Golden Rock and on the sides of motor road, are the broad fields of mainly rice plantations and the scenery is idyllic and make a photo stop at Shwehmawdaw Pagoda, visit the partially reconstructed Kambawzathadi Palace on the way. Lunch will be on the way and dinner and overnight at the hotel.

Day 2 KYAIKHTIYOE-THAHTON-MAWLAMYAING (B)

Breakfast & check-out at the hotel, a few-minute-walk to the passenger truck station to drive down to the Kinpun base camp, then cir 3 & ½ drive to Mawlawmyaing, the beautiful city located on the shore of the Thanlwin River. On the way, if we see something interesting, make photo stops, time for lunch in Mawlawmyaing, where we visit the range of the hills offering the breathtaking view, overlooking the Thanlwin River, also dotted with such religious monuments as Mahamuni Phaya, KyaikthanlanPagoda, Queen Seindon's Monastery with nice rare teak wood screen of wood carvings, U Khandi Pagoda & U Zina Pagoda (sunset can be enjoyed there).Then time for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Mawlamyaing. B=Breakfast

DAY 3 MAWLAMYAING-HPA AN (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, visit the lively Mawlamyaing market to observe the everyday people and then leave for Hpa-an which takes 1 hour & 15 minute drive, on the way, visit a nice Kado Villlage to see the way of life of the villagers with an ancient teak-wood monastery with beautiful woodcarvings, proceed to Saddan Cave,  photo stop at Lumbini Gardens at the foot of Mt.Zwekapin, the landmark of the Kayin State, visit Kyauk-ka-lap Pagoda, which is beautifully located in the middle of the lake, time for late lunch in Hpa An, where we visit Kawgun Cave, dated back to 7th century AD, the pagoda on the river shore to enjoy the nice scenery, time for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Hpa-an. Day 4 HPA AN SIGHTSEEING-BAGO -YANGON (B)

After breakfast, check-out the hotel, visit Hpa An market, then leave for Bago, it's about 180-km, 4-hr drive (Hpa An-Thahton-Kyaikhto-Waw-Bago), and on the way to Bago, stop at Bayingyigu cave which is in between Hpa-An and Thahton well-known for its beautiful scenic spot . Lunch will be on the way and, visit 4 seated Buddha Images in Bago, the Htaukkyan War Cemetery maintained by the British Commonwealth, Golden Banyan Tree, the home of the Guardian Spirit or Nat for automobiles and then to Yangon, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Yangon. FEP-EK Mandalay-Kyaingtong Extension Trip!

Day-1 MANDALAY -KYAING TONG ( Keng Tung ) SIGHTSEEING (B)

After breakfast & check-out at hotel, transfer to the Mandalay airport to take a late morning flight to Keng Tung aka Kyaing Tong of the Golden Triangle, lunch will be early or late depending on our flight time. Arriving at Keng Tung, which is a part of the infamous Golden Triangle & set against the picturesque mountain backdrop, by car & on foot, explore the beautiful downtown that boasts such places of interest as the Shan-style lacquer wares cottage industry, the idyllic Naung Tong lake, the huge standing Buddha, One Tree Hill (Thit Ta Bin Taung in Burmese), where you will find a gigantic solitary 250-year old tree with a great view of the area up there, then time for dinner and overnight at the hotel in Keng Tung. Day-2 KYAING TONG TREK (B)

Breakfast at the hotel, explore the villages of the ethnic tribes, Akha, Eng and Lahu in the area of Pin Tauk, Wanpin. It will be more than half day trip and it's about half an hour drive from the hotel to Wanpin, a starting point to walk for 3 or 5 villages of the above mentioned tribes and these tribes are famous for their traditional clothes and head dresses, the scenery is beautiful, lunch boxes are to be prepared in advance. Drive back to Kyaing Tong and depending on the time, nearby Wan Pauk Palaung village, is to be visited then back to the hotel and overnight there. B=Breakfast

Day-3 KYAING TONG TREK (B)

Breakfast at the hotel, visit the 4 villages of the Akha ethnic tribes in Pankwai area, beautifully located on the slopes of the mountains. To visit there will take more than half day and it will take 50 minutes more or less by car to reach Pankwai from Keng Tung, which is the beginning point to start to trek. After the trek, drive all the way back to hotel in Keng Tung, dinner time and overnight there in Keng Tung. B=Breakfast

Day-4 KYAING TONG SIGHTSEEING-HEHO-INLE LAKE (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, car- transfer to the Keng Tung Airport to take an early afternoon flight to Heho in Shan State before or after lunch and drive to the famous Inle Lake, 22-km long and 11-km wide, noted for its floating gardens, unique leg rowers, fishermen fishing by traditional way, etc., and it will take 1-hr drive from the airport to the lake. On the way, make a photo stop at Shwe Yanpyay wooden monastery, built to commemorate the spot of the 1st meeting between the British Officials and the Saopha of Nyaungshwe in 1886. The places of interest to be visited in the lake by boat, are the villages of weavers (fabrics made of lotus thread from the lotus stems can be seen there), blacksmiths, cheroot rollers (Burmese Cigars), boat-makers, drive to the hotel through the floating garden, dinner time and overnight at the hotel. FEP-EM 5 DAYS MRAUK-U EXTENSION TRIP!

Day-1 YANGON- SITTWE- MRAUK-U (B,L)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, we are going to take a late morning flight to Sittwe, the capital of the Arakan State aka Rakhaing/Rakhine, then about 1-hour car-drive from the Sittwe airport to the jetty of Ponnagyun to start our approximately 3-hr Ponnagyun-Mrauk U-private cruise depending on tide, the scenery is breathtakingly beautiful with the daily activities, on the river, of fishing, washing clothes at the river bank & swimming, etc.,. In fact, it's a stately-cruised-beautiful voyage, relaxing and enjoying the Kaladan river life, lunch on board the boat. Upon arriving at Mrauk-U, which is the forgotten ancient kingdom (1429–1785) of Araknese kings, transfer to check-in at the hotel, dinner time and overnight at the hotel there in Mrauk-U.

Remark: Lunch on board the boat & have a walk in a downtown in Mrauk -U depending on our arrival time there!

Day-2 MRAUK-U SIGHTSEEING (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, a morning visit to Mrauk-U local market to see the everyday people’s ways of life before proceeding to explore the area dotted with such ancient worth-visiting monuments as Lay Mro period Pisi pagoda with 5 sandstone Buddha images strategically located on the mound with nice view up there, the 16th century Koethaung Temple well-known for 90,000 Buddha images in different sizes, a walk to a beautiful Letsaykan Lake and its nearby village where one can see how the drums & fans are traditionally made by hand, time for lunch. Afternoon visit to the ancient archaeological site scattered with such monuments as the 16th century magnificent landmark Shithaung Temple boasting 80,000 Buddha images in different sizes, in the shape of the fortress with interior tunnel of maze decorated with stone carving reliefs of the images of Buddha & other beings depicing mainly 547 Jataka stories, the Htukan Sima well-known for its sandstone reliefs with different hair styles of those days, visit a Thet/Sak tribal village to observe one of our almost extinct ancient tribes there, enjoy the sunset from the hillock near the Ratanabon Pagoda, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Mrauk-U. Day-3 MRAUK-U -CHIN VILLAGE SIGHTSEEING (B,L)

After breakfast at the hotel, half an hour drive to Nankya village, where we take cir 3 -hour-small-private-locally-used-boat trip upstream on the beautiful Lemyo/Lay Mro River to 3 Chin Tribal villages of tattooed-face Chin women by the river shore and we are going to explore, on foot, them when we get there. The scenery along the river is charming and idyllic, sometimes bamboo rafts are coming down the river, villagers are collecting stones & sand from the river bed for commercial purpose, fishing, swimming, washing their clothes by the river shore, etc. At the Chin tribal villages, we can observe the Chin women whose faces are beautified with colourful tattoos in the designs of spider-webs representing their specific clan, also their way of life, lunch will be enjoyed at one of the Tattooed –faced-Chin-women’s villages, after exploration there, all the way back to the hotel in Mrauk-U by boat, by car, then dinner time and overnight stop at the hotel in Mrauk-U. Day-4 MRAUK-U- SITTWE SIGHTSEEING (B)

After breakfast and check-out at the hotel, in the morning, 3-hour- car-drive to Sittwe, on the way, visit (1) the Vesali village, the former ancient kingdom (327-818 AD), (2) Mahamuni Buddha Image at Kyauktaw, believed to be the original Buddha image cast of Bronze during the time of Gotama Buddha, lunch time, stop at (3) Ponnakyun, to walk through the rope bridge to Urittaung Pagoda to enjoy the nice view up there, (4) a weaving place by the roadside at Kyamathauk Village, proceed to Sittwe to be in time for sunset at (5) the view point overlooking the Bay of Bengal, then drive to check-in at the hotel, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Sittwe. Day-5 SITTWE-YANGON DEPARTURE (B)

Early morning walk from the hotel to the central Sittwe market to be right time there at the fish market where the auction of fish freshly caught from the Bay of Bengal, can be observed together with the interesting morning activities at the market, then back to the hotel for breakfast before check-out at the hotel to visit the cultural museum to study the civilizations, culture, history, etc., of the people living in Rakhine, then a walk in a city to explore by rubbing shoulder with the locals, time for lunch and transfer to the Sittwe airport to take a flight back to Yangon. Upon arrival in Yangon, transfer to check-in & overnight at the hotel in Yangon. B=Breakfast

FEP-EP 4 Days Extension Trip to Putao

Day 1 Yangon-Putao (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, transfer to Yangon Airport to take a morning flight to Putao, either via 2-sectors of Mandalay & Myitkyina or via 1-sector. Upon arrival at Putao, it will be the time for lunch at a local restaurant and transfer to the hotel in a  jeep. Lying in a flat valley, Putao is, in fact, a starting point for trekkers who want to explore the region’s deep pristine forests, wildlife sanctuaries and snow-capped mountains etc. Putao town was built during 1914-15 by Commissioner Mr. Hertz along with its Fort later known as Fort Hertz. At about the same time, Christianity was founded by American Missionaries, who also introduced Grapefruit, Washington Naval, Vlincha Orange, Ruby Oranges, King Oranges and King Mandarins plus America Limes to the tribal people there. In the late afternoon, trek to Panhline and Hokho Shan villages in Putao region.There are some Shan villages in & around Putao and Phanhline is the biggest and the most beautiful.The sunset is to be enjoyed at Sutaungpyi Stupa on the mountain of Mr. Harez, dinner time and overnight at the hotel. Day-2 Putao-Nankhan (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel , morning visit to the colorful local market to explore the way of life of the different tribes in northern Myanmar. Then one hour jeep drive to Htawadan Village, 12 miles far away from Putao. The jeep drive ends on the bank of Malikha River, one of the 2 famous small rivers to become the greatest Ayeyarwaddy/Irrawaddy, and take a small boat to cross this river to get to the other side. The onward trekking is started there and sightseeing on the way includes Kaunghmulon Pagoda believed to be built 2000 years ago on the eastern bank of the small river, and unusual spirit/Nat images around the Stupa. It's about 5-mile trek passing through Rawan, Lizu and Shan tribal villages to a very green and carpet-like clean village named Nankhan Village where we leisurely linger around experience the genuine way of life of the Rawan people and overnight stop there in Nankhan village. Day-3 Nankhan village- Machanbaw village-Mularshidi-Putao (B)

After breakfast & check-out, start about 4 hour trek in the fresh morning air, of the distance of about 7 miles from Nankhan Village to Machanbaw, which is the last administrative town in northern Myanmar. On the way, stop to visit some villages of Rawan and Lizu tribal people to observe their way of life. At a small traditional restaurant in Machanbaw, Kachin styled Shan noodle, made of rice, some vegetables and fish, can be enjoyed for lunch and visit the famous Stone Dragon, which is a ‘must’ site at the view point. After crossing the river by the Malikha suspension bridge, proceed to Mularshide Lizu village for 1&1/2 hour car drive. Being not only the biggest Lizu village but the first place to have a touch with Christianity in northern Myanmar, the village has the first ever built church and Sunday School in the region, then proceed to drive to Putao, dinner time and overnight stop at the hotel there in Putao. B=Breakfast

Day-4 Putao-Yangon (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, enjoy again exploring the colorful local market under the rising sun in the dense mist, take a good chance there for local food, such as trying snacks and noodle, at a small restaurant in the market before flight back to Yangon, relax the rest of the day, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Yangon. FEP-EC-BAGAN-CHIN-BAGAN EXTENSION TRIP

DAY-1 BAGAN-KANPETLET

In the morning after breakfast & check-out at the hotel, morning drive to Kanpetlet in the Chin State in a 4WD car and the car-drive will take at least 5 hours. Our driving route is Bagan -Chauk-Seikphyu- Kanzunma-Saw-Kanpetlet and in Chauk, we will visit the busy interesting market to observe the everyday people there, then crossing the Anawrahta Bridge on the Ayeyawaddy River driving along the above mentioned route enjoying the beautiful scenery, making photo stops if we see something interesting, lunch will be either at Kanzunma or Aingyi villages at a simple local restaurant, arriving at Kanpetlet in the evening, explore the town before or after check-in at the hotel, dinner time and overnight there. B=Breakfast

DAY-2 KANPETLET-MT.VICTORIA-KANPETLET (B)

After breakfast at the hotel, about half an hour drive to the base camp to start to trek up to the summit of Mt.Victoria, it will take about 2 hours to trek up and to trek down will take a bit less than 2 hours, it is a nice thrilling fantastic walk to enjoy the natural beauty of Mt.Victoria aka Natmataung, then drive back to Kanpetlet for lunch. Afternoon visit to a couple of nearby villages where senior Chin Ladies and some young Chin girls can still be seen with the beautiful different tattooed designs on their faces to identify themselves which sub tribes they belong to, then time for dinner and overnight at the hotel. B=Breakfast
Remark: The summit of Mt. Victoria can be reached by car too for those who don’t want to trek up & down!

DAY-3 KANPETLET- Village “A”- KYADO-MINDAT (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, about 2 hours drive past village "A" to Sout village ,which is the starting point of trek to one of the best villages, called Kyado where most Chin ladies of different ages, can still be seen with their tattooed faces , the houses are traditionally built, decorated with the skulls of the animals, which are the great pride of Chin men as a proof of their bravery, lunch box brought with us are to be enjoyed there at Kyado, such a couple of villages as Michit, Lokepe,etc., will be visited on the trek which is a loop and which takes more or less 5 hours and our car is waiting for us at Chitchaung Bridge, from there 45-minutes drive to Mindat, dinner time and overnight in Mindat. DAY-4 MINDAT SIGHTSEEING-BAGAN (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, explore Mindat by visiting a local market to observe the local people's way of life, enjoy a nose-flute player dressed up in her finery playing the bamboo flute, a souvenir shop displaying a variety of traditional things on Chin,  more or less 5 hours drive back to Bagan along the route of Mindat-Kyauktu-Pauk-Pakokku-Bagan, enjoying the beautiful scenery along the way, making photo stops if something interesting is seen, lunch is on the way and dinner is in Bagan and overnight stop at the hotel there in Bagan. (FEP-E2P) 2 Days Yangon –Pyay –Yangon

Day 1 YANGON-SHWETAUNG-PYAY

After breakfast and check-out at the hotel, 5-hr-car drive in the morning to Pyay aka Prome during the British colonial days , from where the most ancient historical sight in Burma known as Sriksetra or City of Splendor in Sanskrit, dated back to 2nd_9th Century AD, 8 km (5 miles) to the southeast of it, in the village of Hmawza, with the prototypes of Stupas and Temples (2 types of Pagoda) built in the Pyu Period, can be visited. Prome is situated 260 km/160 miles northwest of Yangon on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River. On the way to Prome, visit (1) Shwenattaung Phaya, (2) Shwemyethman Buddha Image in Shwedaung before or after lunch there at the local food restaurant, then proceed to visit such places of interest in Prome as (3) Shwesandaw Pagoda, (4) Phayagyi before or after check-in at the hotel, time for dinner and  overnight at the hotel in Prome.

Day 2 PYAY(HMAWZA) SIGHTSEEING-YANGON (B)

After breakfast & check-out at the hotel, morning car-drive to the ancient Pyu sight called Sriksetra in the village of Hmawza to explore the worth-visiting places, by car, (1) Phayama in the paddy field outside the present-day Hmawza village, (2) Sriksetra Museum and  by Ox-cart, (3) the Ruined Palace Complex, (4) East Zegu, West Zegu Pagodas, (5)the Pyu Cemetery, Be Be Temple, Leihmyethna Temple and Baw Baw Cylindrical Stupa in a straight line not far from one another, (6) the Rahanta Gate and Rahanta Cave Temple, then time for lunch and drive all the way back to Yangon for 5-hours more or less, check-in at the hotel, dinner time and overnight at the hotel in Yangon. (FEP-E2G) 2-Days Extension Trip to Kyaikhtiyo

(Day 1) YANGON –BAGO-KYAIKHTIYOE

After breakfast & check-out at hotel, about 4-hr-countryside-car-drive to (a) the Kinpun base camp of Kyaikhtiyoe Pagoda aka Golden Rock, which is worldwide- known for its precarious balancing position, lying on the edge of the base cliff connected with the main pagoda platform with the iron bridge. Then from (a) to (b) the upper hill-truck station near Golden Rock Pagoda by a mountain-open hill-truck , it takes about 45-minutes, if the traffic is clear. Then 3-minute-walk from (b) to check-in at the hotel, which is just 10-minutes-walk away to/from (c) the Kyaikhtiyoe pagoda. It's a country drive from Yangon to the Golden Rock and on the sides of motor road, are the broad fields of mainly rice plantations together with the other seasonal crops and the scenery is idyllic to soothe your nerves, on the way stop at the Golden Banyan Tree believed to be inhabited by the automobile Nat/spirit, explore the Htaukkyan War Cemetery well-maintained by the British Common Wealth and visit Kyaikpun Phaya with 4-seated-sitting Buddha images of cir 9.5 m high facing the 4 cardinal points of the campus, before proceeding to drive to the Golden Rock, lunch will be on the way to Kyaikhto and time for dinner at the hotel and overnight there at the Golden Rock.

(Day 2) KYAIKHTIYOE-BAGO-YANGON (B)

In the morning after breakfast & check-out at the hotel, 5-minute walk from the hotel to the mountain hill truck station, from there by the open hill-truck, to the base camp ( 45-minute drive) where our car is waiting for us, leave for Bago, It's about 105-km, cir-2- hr drive along the route of Kyaikhto-Waw-Bago, on the way, stop at the rubber plantation to see how the rubber sap is collected to make the rubber sheets, photo stop at the dry fish village at Waw City. Upon arrival at Bagao, before or after lunch there, make a photo stop at Shwehmawdaw Pagoda, visit the reconstructed partially finished Kambawzathadi Palace, the founding place of the broadest 2nd Burmese empire, originally built in 16th century, Shwethalyaung Reclining Buddha then proceed to drive to the Yangon for 2-hours or so along the route of Bago-Helgu-Yangon, which is less than 80-km, time for dinner,  check-in & overnight at the hotel in Yangon.
